Alice Thornton’s Café brings 17th-century remedies, rhymes and writings to Starbank Park. Enjoy a free tea and cake in Starbank House and learn about Alice Thornton, a writer from the 17th-century. Researchers on the Alice Thornton’s Books project at The University of Edinburgh will be there to tell you about Thornton’s rediscovered manuscripts. Find out what Alice Thornton had to say about family, faith, plants and health, and some very unusual ailments and cures. There will be herbal remedy-themed crafts for all ages, and you’ll be shown around Starbank Park’s many secret corners, including some brand new seventeenth-century themed planting. All ages welcome!
