Why do we represent journeys as lines on maps? Around the year 1500, European oceanic exploration gave origin to the convention of marking human movement as a wake on the world.

Join this event and explore the fascinating history of a device that we normally take for granted, while visualising alternative models of understanding our presence in the world.

The event includes:

  • Talk by Dr Sara Caputo: 11:00-11:20 and 14:00-14:20 (repeated twice)
  • Drawing workshop for families and children: 11:00-12:00 and 14:00-15:00 (same room as the talk)
  • Tour of artefacts: all day, 10:00-16:00 (self-guided pathway through the museum)

This event is aimed at adults and families with children (age 4+).
