Gain insights into storytelling through photography and performance at this 2-day creative storytelling workshop led by artist and UCA PhD candidate Camille Serisier.
Attendees will gain insights into storytelling through photography and performance, focusing on issues like displacement and homesickness. We will attempt to develop a deeper understanding of these human experiences through storytelling and collaborative making. This event aims to inspire action, raise awareness, and provide practical skills in drawing, photography, storytelling, and public engagement.
This event is open to all, especially those interested in photography, performance, participation, storytelling and social issues, who are keen to share stories about immigration or support these communities.
Workshop agenda
Day One:
10:00 – 14:30
Lunch break 12:30 – 13:30. Please bring your own lunch and drinks
The first day of this interactive workshop will be broken into two halves. In the morning session, we will discuss and analyze visual representations of immigrants in various contexts, including in museums, newspapers, magazines, and online. Then, we will use drawing to imagine and visualize how we would like immigrants to be represented.
In the afternoon, we will bring our drawings to life by creating bespoke scenery, props, and costumes using paint, paper, cardboard, and fabric.
Day Two:
10:00 – 14:30
Lunch break 12:30 – 13:30. Please bring your own lunch and drinks.
On the second day, we will perform our drawings for the camera. We will explore our imaginative potential to create new representations of migrants, in keeping with the drawings and identities portrayed on the first day of the workshop.
This event is part of a series of activities for Being Human Festival 2024, led by University for the Creative Arts.
