Scheduled dates
The Wyvern Poets (led by Peter Marshall in collaboration with Keith Williams) comprises local writers with backgrounds across numerous professions and walks of life. This year’s Being Human poetry booklet launch is inspired by the research of Erin Farley (head of Local History at Dundee Central Library) into the city’s astonishingly rich and diverse poetic heritage from the time of Burns onwards.
This event will include readings by the Wyvern Poets, followed by Q&A and an ‘open mic’ section. Hear about the creative process from the poets themselves and discover more about the predecessors that inspired them. Dr Farley will also speak about the Library’s Lamb Poetry collection as a treasure house of voices which speak to us across the centuries. Everyone connects ‘the world’s best worst poet’, William Topaz McGonagall, with Dundee, but this event celebrates many of the city’s other working-class male and female poets written out of literary history – until now.
This event is part of a series of events led by the University of Dundee.
