Join us for the opening night of a display showcasing modern merchants’ marks produced by workshop participants, as well as historical information and photographs of the merchants’ marks around Norwich. Visitors can enjoy food and drink and represent their own identities through creating marks at a self-guided makers' station and take part in pop-up talks with leading humanities researchers, historians and graphic designers.

In medieval times, Norwich was an international trading centre with merchants’ marks - precursors of modern logos - stamped onto goods and carved into buildings. These forgotten landmarks, many of which are still visible today, were preserved through the efforts of antiquarian John Kirkpatrick (1687-1728) and Mark your Mark! celebrates him as a pioneer of sustainable heritage.

Following the festival this exhibition is open 17-20 November, between 10:00-16:00.

The display has been curated by designer and researcher Darren Leader with Dr Sophie Butler and Dr Tom Roebuck from UEA. Supported by CreativeUEA in partnership with the National Centre for Writing, Norfolk Library and Information Service and Norfolk Museums Service.

This event is part of the Make Your Mark! event series led by UEA.
