Edward Thomas (1878-1917) is one of the lesser-known Great War Poets. His work nonetheless, written in a colloquial style, stands apart from that of Wilfred Owen and Sigrid Sassoon, for its modern sensibility and direction emotion. With a nod to Benjamin Britten, local composer John Middleton set fifteen of Thomas’s poems to music (for voice and piano).
The performance will be introduced by Dr. Wim Van Mierlo (Loughborough University) with a short talk on ‘War Poetry, Commemoration, and Creative Memory’.
