Reporting on sport has been a key part of the business of local newspapers for more than 200 years and today coverage of football in particular remains a key driver of traffic to the 21st century online versions of these titles. This event will bring together Coventry City football fans, media historians and journalists in a knowledge café event to recall a golden moment in the history of both Coventry FC and the Coventry Telegraph – the club’s 1987 FA Cup win.

The event will draw on living memory recollection of the historic win and its coverage in the Coventry Telegraph to demonstrate how key local newspaper stories resonate with people for decades after publication and add to the meaning local newspapers have for their local communities.

The event will involve researchers from Coventry University’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute for Creative Cultures and the supporters’ organisation, the Sky Blues Trust.
