An in-conversation event and workshop exploring how Cardiff University research provided valuable insight into the mental and emotional experiences of war for combatants and civilians.

Learn how research by our School of English, Communication and Philosophy on enemy encounters contributed to the War and the Mind exhibition currently on display at the Imperial War Museum, London.

View some of the key exhibits, learn about our research and hear narratives that give an insight into the mental and emotional experience of war for combatants and civilians.

Join our researcher, Professor Holly Furneaux, the exhibition’s Senior Curator, Laura Clouting, and Karin Diamond, Artistic Director at Re-live (a life story arts charity who feature in the exhibition), to explore the challenges of presenting difficult histories, and gain an understanding of the mental and emotional experiences of conflict.

Following the talk and Q&A, there will be an opportunity for audience members to share their own experiences, should they choose, through group discussions and interactive creative practices. A quiet, private space will be available if necessary.

The War and the Mind exhibition is on display at the Imperial War Museum in London from 27 September 2024 to 27 April 2025. Admission is free.

This event is part of Cardiff University's 2024 Festival Hub programme.
