This event will showcase the University’s ‘Signing Shakespeare’ project (originally devised in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company); a project designed to make Shakespeare’s work accessible to Deaf young people across the country.
The day will feature a ‘Signing Shakespeare’ workshop on The Tempest for D/deaf students (Key Stage 3 or 4), followed by a performance in total communication (sign language, mime, spoken word and subtitles) by students from Braidwood Trust School for the Deaf and a short film about the ‘Signing Shakespeare’ project by award-winning documentary maker Andrew Smith.
Schools can book places on the workshop by emailing Abigail Rokison-Woodall (a.rokison@bham.ac.uk). The workshop will take place from 12:00 to 13:00 and workshop places include a ticket to the performance.
The performance and film screening will take place from 13:15 to 14:00. Those wishing to attend only the performance/ film screening can book at the link above.
BSL interpretation will be provided throughout.
This event is part of the University of Birmingham's 2024 festival Hub programme.
