Come travel the world through songs with Yoshie Fujiwara (1898–1976). Often dubbed ‘our tenor’, he was one of twentieth-century Japan’s most important singers. Yet, there is a British connection: he was half-Scottish and had performed around the globe, from London to Los Angeles, Belfast to Buenos Aires, and Dublin to Dalian. Pop by the listening booth to choose your favourite song, pick up a postcard to write home, and tell us where you’ve been on Fujiwara’s touring map.

This event is open to anyone in and around Durham, interested in Japanese culture, music, and Anglo-Japanese history.

Everyone is also invited to an associated lecture recital of Fujiwara’s songs on Wednesday 13 November at 19:30 at Durham University's Music Department, as part of Durham University’s professional music concert series, MUSICON.
