Join our free online training session for an introduction to creative methods for delivering public engagement activities.

The session will be led by Dr Jamie Gallagher, who will provide an overview of how to incorporate a range of creative activities into your public engagement event. Get inspired by previous examples and gain practical tips for successful and creative public engagement activity.

We will also be running a Creative Engagement Workshop on Thursday 20 March: you do not have to attend both sessions but we recommend you do if possible.

  • An introduction to designing a creative public engagement event, including inspiration for different event formats and methods
  • Simple and impactful ways to add creative flavour to your event
  • Defining your target audience
  • Practical tips on tools and processes for planning public engagement activities

  • This session will be suitable for those new to public engagement, and those with some experience who are looking for new ideas for their engagement activities
  • Being Human Festival applicants, or those interested in applying
  • Researchers at HEIs and research organisations who want to learn more about public engagement in the humanities
  • Public engagement professionals
  • Cultural and community organisations who are interested in public engagement

This session is primarily aimed at those taking part, or thinking of taking part, in Being Human Festival, but is open to all.

Jamie Gallagher

Dr Jamie Gallagher is an award-winning communicator and engagement professional with ten years’ experience in the delivery and evaluation of quality engagement projects. Working across dozens of institutions and subject areas he has helped improve the reach, profile and impact of research engagement in almost every discipline.

Joining the event 

This event is free, but booking is required. It will be held online and joining details will be circulated via email to registered attendees. 

This event is part of a series of Being Human Festival training sessions exploring public engagement with research. The sessions will be led by expert facilitators with experience in their field and the Being Human Festival team. While the sessions are primarily aimed at those taking part, or thinking of taking part, in Being Human Festival, they are open to all. The sessions run from February to October 2025.
